What is a Float Value?

Every CS2 skin has a float value - a decimal number between 0 and 1 that determines how worn a skin looks in-game. The lower the float, the cleaner and more pristine the skin appears.

Float values are permanently assigned when a skin is unboxed, dropped, or created through a trade-up contract. They cannot be changed after the fact.

Wear Ranges

CS2 groups float values into five wear categories:

Not every skin can exist in every wear. Each skin has a minimum and maximum float defined by its paint data. For example, the AWP | Asiimov only drops between 0.18 and 1.00, which is why you will never find a Factory New Asiimov.

How Floats Affect Price

The relationship between float and price is not linear. Here is what matters:

1. Low floats command premiums

A Factory New skin with a 0.001 float is worth significantly more than one with a 0.06 float, even though both are technically "Factory New." Collectors pay premium prices for the cleanest possible version of a skin.

2. Cap floats are the most valuable

The absolute lowest and highest possible floats for a given skin are called "cap floats." A skin at 0.000000001 (close to the minimum cap) is extremely rare and valuable - sometimes worth 10x or more than a normal FN version.

3. Wear boundary floats

Skins right at the edge of a wear boundary can look like a higher condition. A Field-Tested AK-47 Redline at 0.15 float looks almost identical to a Minimal Wear version but costs significantly less. Smart traders look for these "float bargains."

4. Battle-Scarred exceptions

Some skins actually look better battle-scarred. The AK-47 Case Hardened in high float can reveal more blue pattern, and certain skins have unique visual effects at extreme wear levels.
